It’s that time of year again! The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are heading to the NCAA Tournament! Here’s everything you need to know about their appearances in the big dance.

Introduction

Since the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament began in 1939, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons have made 16 appearances. They have a record of 11-16 in those appearances. Their most recent appearance came in 2020, when they lost in the first round to Louisville.

The Demon Deacons’ best NCAA tournament showing came in 1962, when they made it to the Elite Eight. They also made it to the Sweet Sixteen five times: in 1984, 1985, 1986, 1995, and 2004.

Regular Season

The Demon Deacons have made 22 NCAA Tournament appearances, most recently in 2020. They have a record of 27-21 in the tournament.

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are a Division I college basketball team that has competed in the NCAA Tournament twenty-six times. They are a charter member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and have won nine conference championships. The Demon Deacons have advanced to the Sweet Sixteen eleven times and the Elite Eight four times. They have made two appearances in the Final Four, in 1962 and 1986, both of which resulted in losses to eventual national champion Kentucky. The team is currently coached by Danny Manning and play their home games at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Post-Season

Wake Forest has appeared in the NCAA Tournament 31 times. Their combined record is 35–30.

The Demon Deacons have reached the Sweet Sixteen eight times and the Elite Eight four times. They have also made two Final Four appearances, in 1962 and in 1986.

In 1962, Billy Packer led the Demon Deacons to their first appearance in the Final Four. After Wake Forest defeated St. Joseph’s in the regional final, they lost to Ohio State in the national semifinal. This remains Wake Forest’s only appearance in the Final Four.

In 1986, Gary Williams took over as head coach and led the Demon Deacons to their second appearance in the Final Four. After defeating Nebraska in the regional final, they lost to Louisville in the national semifinal.

Off-Season

Although the Demon Deacons have not made an appearance in the NCAA tournament since 2017, they have made it to the postseason in each of the past three years. The team’s last appearance was in the 2019 National Invitation Tournament, where they lost to eventual champions Baylor in the second round.
